Lieven is a renowned expert in real estate and construction law, with particular expertise in contract law.
He advises clients on all legal aspects of complex real estate transactions, including project structuring, real estate M&A, sale-and-leaseback transactions, joint ventures, leasing, REIT (FIIS) structures, and (re)development projects.
Lieven’s experience includes major transactions in the Belgian market involving large logistics hubs, hotels, office buildings, commercial properties, the Courts of Justice, large inner-city (re)developments, and specialised real estate assets such as embassies, dark kitchens and mixed-use developments.
Lieven is a Member and Assessor of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS). He sits on the Legal Committee of the Belgium-Luxembourg Council for Retail and Shopping Centres (BLSC). He is also a member of the Professional Association of the Real Estate Sector (BVS–UPSI), the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the Belgian Association for Construction Law (BVBR–ABDC), and is the incoming Chair (2026-2028) of the International Bar Association (IBA) Leisure Industries Committee and an officer of the IBA Real Estate Committee.
Lieven regularly speaks at industry conferences and legal seminars.
Lieven Peeters has been awarded the ILO Client Choice Award for Real Estate in Belgium in 2011, 2012, 2015, 2021 and 2025 and for Leisure in Belgium in 2020. He also won the Lexology 2025 European Awards Lawyer of the Year for Real Estate.
