13:00 – 13:45 “The draft NGT Regulation at the level of the Council – a state of play”

by Mathias De Mesmaeker (Chair of technical working party on NGT at the level of the Council of the EU – Attaché of the Belgian FPS of health, food chain safety and environment)

13:50 – 14:30 “No patents and eternal EDV status for NGT plants?” 

The European Parliament wants to ban NGT plants and related inventions from patentability and according to the most recent UPOV Explanatory Note NGT-derived plant varieties will most likely end up being EDVs. A good idea?”

On 1 January 2024, a new administrative fining regime has come into effect in Belgium. This session will explore the Authority’s perspective on what is new, using examples such as the violation of MRLs to illustrate the implications.

Sustainability is all the rage, but what does that really mean in legal terms? This presentation will explore the EU’s initiatives to regulate the sustainability of agri-food products.

An overview of the CRISPR patent landscape and recent case law on the issue, in particular regarding priority

16:45 – 17:15 “Insights from recent EU and national crop protection case law” 

This session will deal with parallel import labelling requirements after the Syngenta Agro decision, Member States’ discretion in dealing with new scientific information in relation to PPP marketing authorisations, and the latest on the renewal of active substances and access to data.
