How are the rules relating to the advertising and marketing of alcoholic beverages applied by Belgium’s Advertising Ethics Board?
February 13, 2024 13:30

This self-disciplinary body for the advertising sector (JEP) scrutinizes ads and campaigns as to their compliance with the Covenant on advertising and marketing of alcoholic beverages. The alcoholic beverages industry, consumer organizations and the Belgian government are parties to that Covenant.

Join us on Tuesday 13 February from 13:30 to 14:30 for a review of the Advertising Ethics Board’s decision-making practice in this respect by Mathieu Maniet and Nicolas Clarembeaux. Based on concrete decisions of the Advertising Ethics Board, they will attempt to identify certain trends and patterns.

Should certain graphic or mood codes be avoided? Is there any room for layered humour in ads for alcoholic beverages? From when on can one talk about encouraging excessive or thoughtless consumption?

To the extent possible they will draw conclusions as to the frontier between legitimate commercial speech and advertising which falls foul of the rules laid down in the Covenant.

This webinar will be in English and has been accredited with 1 point by the IBJ/IJE.
