Olivier Vrins behandelt voornamelijk zaken over merken, tekeningen en modellen, octrooien auteursrechten. Hij wordt omschreven als een “highly skilled IP specialist” (Chambers and Partners) en als “one of the best in Europe in the Customs field” (Managing Intellectual Property). Olivier heeft een diepgaande kennis in het domein van de IER.

Hij specialiseert zich ook in het domein van beschermde oorsprongsbenamingen en geografische aanduidingen, alsook in de bescherming van persoonlijke rechten van publieke figuren, waaronder sporters.

Olivier werd verkozen tot Voorzitter van de Anti-Counterfeiting Committee of the European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA). Hij is ook lid van het Geographical Committee of ECTA; de International Trade Mark Association (INTA); de International Wine Law Association (AIDV); de Benelux Trade Mark and Design Association (BMM); de redactieraad van het BMM Bulletin en van de Belgische Raad voor de Intellectuele Eigendom.

Hij spreekt regelmatig op seminaries over de handhaving van IER en andere IER-gerelateerde onderwerpen en werd aangesteld door WIPO als internationaal expert in workshops over de handhaving van intellectuele eigendomsrechten. Olivier is de auteur van het boek Regulation (EU) No 608/2013 of 12 June 2013 Concerning Customs Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights and Repealing Regulation 1383/2003 (Kluwer: International Encyclopedia of Laws, 2017) en co-redacteur van het boek Enforcement of IPRs through Border measures.Law and Practice in the EU (Oxford University Press, 2^de ed. 2012).
