The Intellectual Property team is traditionally a very strong department in the firm and is one of the largest IP teams in Belgium. ALTIUSʼ intellectual property expertise covers all the traditional branches of intellectual property law and related matters, as well as the more recent technology-related disciplines. It also represents important players in the media and entertainment sector for non-IP-related issues.

ALTIUS has been involved in groundbreaking litigation before the European Courts (ECJ and CFI) and in numerous high-profile IP litigation cases before the Belgian courts. New IP legislation has made Belgium an ideal country in which to litigate. In principle, it is possible to obtain a decision on the merits from the Commercial Court in only 3 months.

Moreover, the Belgian Customs authorities are among the most active in Europe in assisting IP holders to fight against counterfeiting and piracy. ALTIUSʼ IP litigation team represents clients before all levels of civil and criminal courts, files opposition and nullity suits before the competent administrative bodies and represents clients in domain-name disputes.
